On entering the gates of Missionvale Care Centre ran by Sister Ethel and
staff , we were greeted with such warmth. It was just like turning the key
on your own front door at home.
Missionvale Care Centre is comprised of many different departments in which
all us volunteers got to work alongside all the local staff.
Jessicta,Rosa,Curly Sue,Mavis,Jesseline were some of the names of the local
township staff. These people are paid staff of the Care Centre and take
great pride in all their daily tasks. The day begins at 7.45 with devotions,
which is filled with song and praise for each new day. It was a powerful,
moving experience and an amazing uplifting start to each new day at the Care
Centre.
As I worked each day in many different departments I learnt more about what
this Care Centre has achieved, what it provides for all the locals- such as
health care, clothing, food, schooling and social care. It is like a blanket
of security for all the locals. However the ethos behind this blanket of
security is to teach the locals to self sustain, grow and learn how to self-
help. Volunteering at Missionvale was a very moving , humbling, loving
experience. I received so much more than I gave…. I wish I could give so
much more.
